SUB.CONSCIOUS & SOLE PURPOSE present: KLUTE (Metalheadz, Hospital) - The Vanguard

12.21

Every month, SUB.CONSCIOUS presents the freshest Bass & Beats in TEXAS.

This time around we proudly join with our partners in culture at SOLE PURPOSE to bring to Houston a long-awaited return performance from an incredible artist with a proven history and prolific catalog across the spectrum of audible emotion from Drum & Bass to Techno.

KLUTE
(Commercial Suicide, Metalheadz, Hospital - London)
http://soundcloud.com/commercialsuicide
http://www.facebook.com/kluteofficial

A rebel with a cause, Klute is a truly unique artist and continues to be a creative force in drum & bass after over a decade in the scene. His productions mix strong melodies with tough beats, bearing the influence of Klute’s roots in punk and techno, and his livewire DJ sets are known for their energy and intensity. His sixth full-length artist "Music for Prophet" was released in 2010, demonstrating once again his diversity and broad appeal with a worldwide tour taking him everywhere from Mexico to Mumbai. In 2011, Klute has returned to focus on his label Commercial Suicide and celebrate it's 10th anniversary with releases from the likes of Nymfo, Mindscape, Amit, Dom & Roland, as well as a new solo Klute single, and more to come.

Unlike many of his contemporaries, the musical career of Tom Withers began way before the sounds of drum and bass or even hardcore had first emerged. As Tommy Stupid he fronted skate punk outfit The Stupids and took the band on tours of Europe, the USA and Australia during the late 1980s before venturing into electronic music and starting his own solo career. From acid house and techno he made a natural progression into rave and then hardcore before playing his first gigs as a drum and bass DJ around 1996. Throughout his career, he’s always been happy to let his rebel roots show and has never been afraid to buck the trend. His ability to combine a multitude of influences in his music, from techno to thrash to dub, with punk attitude is Klute’s trademark.

Klute’s early forays into jungle brought several outings on the seminal Certificate 18 label and a relationship grew that resulted in the release of his first artist album, "Casual Bodies" in 1998. He went on to release a further album ‘Fear of People’ on Certificate 18 in 2000 before seeking a new home following the demise of the label. Initially fearing that no-one else would want to release his music, at time when the scene seemed to dominated by soundalikes and trend followers, Klute went his own way and set up his own imprint.

Klute kicked off Commercial Suicide with the genre-defying classic "Tranceformat" in 2001 and set the tone for the label that has since come to be held in the highest regard. Releases from the likes of Calibre, Digital, Spirit, Hive and Juju raised the label’s profile and helped build a reputation for varied output across the spectrum of drum and bass, testing both musical boundaries and the dancefloor. Klute released his third album "Lie Cheat & Steal" in 2003 including guest remixes from Calibre and Keaton. With the dance floor firmly taken care of the home experience doesn’t fail to satisfy, in fact it captivates, returning the club support favour with a special link rare in modern dance music LPs.

This ethos, almost reactionary in today’s Drum and Bass climate, is ever present in tracks such as “Candy Ass”, “Now, Always, Forever” and the previously released “Part of Me”. With “Lie, Cheat & Steal” this challenge has been met, garnering results the like of which haven’t been seen since seminal works such as Goldie’s “Timeless” and Reprazent’s “New Forms”, with "No One’s Listening Anymore" following in 2004. In 2006 Klute showed his faith in two of the scene’s most promising artists, Amit and SKC, by putting out their debut artist albums and has continued to support developing artists with a steady stream of releases from the likes of The Upbeats, Break and Ill Skillz. Recent releases from Amit, Nymfo, and the new solo single from Klute himself ('Scooter' / 'Party Hands') plus the launch of a new official label store at Surus have kept Commercial Suicide on track for another great year.

"As far as I am concerned people taking chances is the future and I would like to think that my material falls into that category.” - Klute

Did some Googling and can't seem to find this Vanguard place. I'm not from Texas. Last time I came into Houston for DnB, I ended up in a run-down garage warehouse place.. which was fine with me.. but the cab driver refused to come back and get me at the end of the night so I hitched a ride with drunken strangers. I'd like to be a little more prepared this time and up my chances of making it home alive

Anyone got an address for this place?
